New Jersey A1284 prohibits public procurement of electric vehicles made through forced labor.

New Jersey A1284 prohibits the State government, State colleges, local governments, and public schools from procuring electric vehicles unless they receive a certification from the manufacturer or seller that no forced or child labor was used in production. "Forced labor" includes work obtained by force, fraud, or coercion, imposed on members of protected classes, or not offered voluntarily. A civil penalty of $10,000 per false statement or 50% of the purchase price applies for false certifications. The prohibition does not apply if it conflicts with federal law or funding terms.
