Currently, boards of elections can open drop boxes for municipal, school, and special elections. The bill specifies that during fire district elections, boards may open the drop box closest to the municipal government building and the one at the board of elections or county office. The Secretary of State will establish guidelines for ballot drop box placement and security. The bill takes effect immediately.
