Text Text

New Hampshire HB253 mandates interest-bearing pooled trust accounts be remitted to the public defender's office and sets conditions for fund.

New Hampshire HB253 amends RSA 311 to require lawyers with interest-bearing pooled trust accounts to remit interest or dividends to the public defender's office. This applies to lawyers in private practice, excluding judges, attorneys general, and others. The public defender's office must publish its budget and refrain from contributing to non-profits or political campaigns to be eligible for these funds. The Supreme Court and the New Hampshire Bar Association can set rules for these provisions. The act takes effect 60 days after passage.
