Providing an option for each candidate's party affiliations to be printed on the town or school district ballot.

Chamber Passed·3/17/26
Text Text

HB1272 allows towns and school districts to decide whether to print candidates' party affiliations on ballots.

HB1272 amends state law to give towns and school districts the option to print candidates' party affiliations on official ballots. Voters will decide this at town or school district meetings. If a majority votes "Yes," party affiliations will appear on future ballots unless rescinded or if the unofficial ballot system is adopted. The party affiliation listed will be the one on the voter checklist at the time of candidacy, denoted by the party's first three letters or "(UND)" if undeclared. Candidates can opt out of having their party affiliation printed.
