New Jersey S4233 eliminates co-payments for health care services provided to incarcerated individuals. The bill prohibits the State or a county from charging an incarcerated individual a co-payment for medical care, surgery, dental care, hospitalization, treatment, or medication. It also prohibits the State or a county from seeking reimbursement from an incarcerated individual for costs incurred in providing these services. If an individual is covered by a health insurance plan, the State or county may seek reimbursement from the individual’s health insurance plan.
