Nevada SJR9 urges the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee and the Postmaster General to create a postage stamp honoring John Snowshoe Thompson.
Nevada SJR9 urges the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee and the Postmaster General of the United States Postal Service to create a commemorative postage stamp for John Snowshoe Thompson. Thompson, born in Norway in 1827, moved to California in 1851 and became a mail carrier between Placerville, California, and Mormon Station, Nevada. Despite the challenging snow-covered terrain, Thompson made the journey twice a month from 1856 to 1876, carrying mail, parcels, and life-saving medicines. His bicentennial will be observed on April 30, 2027.
