SB52

Nevada SB52 revises education provisions, including criteria for good-cause exemptions for third-grade retention and reporting on English learners.

Nevada SB52 amends education laws to revise criteria for good-cause exemptions for third-grade retention. It allows pupils to demonstrate reading proficiency through a portfolio instead of a standardized test. The bill also modifies the definition of "long-term English learner" to include pupils who have been classified as English learners for more than six consecutive years. Additionally, it requires school districts to report on the percentage of pupils who are immigrants, refugees, and English learners, and to submit these reports to the Department of Education.
