Interim study on residential building codes and land development regulations to identify cost barriers in affordable housing.

The Urban Affairs Committee of the Legislature will conduct an interim study to examine residential building codes and land development regulations. The study will determine which codes may be cost prohibitive in the building of affordable and workforce housing. It will examine exceptions to residential building codes, identify unnecessary or excessive codes, and assess the impact of city, village, and state regulations on development costs. The committee may consult with housing experts and stakeholders, and will report findings and recommendations to the Legislative Council or Legislature.
