Nebraska LR265 recognizes John Ewing Jr.'s election as Omaha's first Black mayor and celebrates his decades of public service. Ewing began his career in law enforcement, rising to Deputy Chief in the Omaha Police Department. He then served as Douglas County Treasurer, modernizing the office and ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds. A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Ewing has dedicated his career to uplifting underserved neighborhoods and expanding economic opportunity. His historic victory inspires future leaders, particularly young Black Nebraskans.
