Introduced Text

Nebraska LB739 modifies notice requirements for name change petitions.

Nebraska LB739 amends the notice requirements for petitions to change an individual's name. It mandates publication in a local newspaper for those 19 and older, once a week for four weeks, and once a week for two weeks for those under 19. The court can waive the notice requirement if it endangers the petitioner. For minors with a noncustodial parent, notice must be sent by certified mail. The bill repeals the original section and replaces it with these new provisions.
