Failed·4/17/26
Introduced Text

Nebraska LB584 would change sentencing for crimes committed by those under eighteen.

Nebraska LB584 would repeal existing sentencing provisions and change penalties for certain felonies committed by persons under eighteen years of age. It would require courts to consider mitigating factors when sentencing offenders under eighteen. For Class IA felonies, the maximum sentence would be fifty years and the minimum would be based on mitigating factors. For other felonies, maximum and minimum sentences would vary by class. The court must advise offenders of their parole eligibility and mandatory release dates.
