SB75

Revise amendment process for legislation that is subject to a sunset

Complete·4/3/25

Montana SB75 revises the amendment process for sunset legislation, allowing termination dates to be revised multiple times and resolving conflicts.

Montana SB75 revises the amendment process for sunset legislation by allowing the termination date of a statute to be revised multiple times through amendments to the initial session law. In cases of conflicting revisions during the same legislative session, the conflict is resolved by a coordination instruction. If unresolved, the latest revised termination date prevails. The act also specifies that a termination date cannot be revised through an amendment of session law unless the revising legislation is effective before the initial or amended termination date.
