SB37

Clarify calculations for significant enrollment increases

Complete·4/16/25

Montana SB37 clarifies how significant enrollment increases are calculated for school districts.

Montana SB37 revises school funding laws to clarify that calculations for significant enrollment increases are made at the budget unit level. To be eligible for a significant enrollment increase payment, a district's October enrollment count must exceed the district's budget limit by 110% or more. The superintendent of public instruction must notify the district of its eligibility and the amount by December 15. The district then decides whether to accept the payment and adopts a budget amendment. The act applies to school fiscal years beginning on or after July 1, 2025.
