Montana SB332 would change the appointment process for the clerk of the supreme court.
Montana SB332 would amend the Montana Code Annotated to change the appointment process for the clerk of the supreme court. The bill would require the clerk to be appointed by a majority vote of the supreme court justices, rather than being elected by the electors at large of the state. The clerk would hold the position at the pleasure of the court. The bill also eliminates the ability of the clerk of the supreme court to appoint a deputy clerk. The changes would take effect January 1, 2031, with some provisions effective January 6, 2031.
