SB289

Provide county notification for certain property tax adjustments

Complete·5/5/25

Montana SB289 requires the Department of Revenue to notify counties of property tax adjustments exceeding $1.5 million.

Montana SB289 mandates the Department of Revenue to send an electronic notice to the county when a property's market value decreases by more than $1.5 million since the last reappraisal. The notice must include the market value from the prior reappraisal cycle and the preliminary market value. This notice must be sent no later than when the original or revised classification and appraisal notice is sent to the property owner. The bill also requires the Department to meet with the county upon request and provide any public information used to establish the preliminary market value.
