Montana HB97 allows platooning of trucks on public highways with certain restrictions.
Montana HB97 allows the platooning of trucks on public highways, but restricts it during dangerous road conditions. The Department of Transportation can adopt rules to limit platooning in such conditions. The bill requires that any person in a position to take control of a vehicle in a platoon must have a commercial driver's license. The law also mandates that the department consult with stakeholders before proposing rules.
