Failed·5/20/25
Introduced Text

Montana HB854 provides an income tax credit for the cost of a federally required firearm suppressor tax stamp.

Montana HB854 establishes an income tax credit to offset the cost of a federally required firearm suppressor tax stamp. The credit can be claimed in the tax year the stamp is purchased, with a maximum amount equal to the lesser of the stamp's cost or $50. The credit must be refunded if the taxpayer's tax liability is less than the credit claimed. The purpose of the credit is to protect shooters from long-term hearing damage by offsetting the cost of safety devices mandated by the federal government.
