Montana HB849 creates special motorcycle license plates to promote motorcycle safety and awareness.

Montana HB849 establishes a program for special motorcycle license plates designed by the Department of Justice to recognize Montana-based nonprofit organizations dedicated to motorcycle rider safety and awareness. Owners of motorcycles or quadricycles can purchase these plates by paying a $20 donation fee, in addition to standard license plate and administrative fees. The proceeds from the donation fees will be used to fund grants to Montana-based nonprofit organizations that promote motorcycle safety. The act is effective January 1, 2026.
