Montana HB838 would amend state election laws to allow candidates for the offices of chief justice and justice of the Montana Supreme Court to indicate their political party affiliation on their declaration for nomination and on primary and general election ballots. Currently, candidates for these nonpartisan judicial offices cannot indicate their party affiliation. The bill would also require the Secretary of State to update the state's election website and perform related computer programming. The changes would apply to primary and general elections held on or after July 1, 2025.
