Failed·5/22/25

Montana HB836 proposes a property tax deferral loan program for eligible taxpayers.

Montana HB836 establishes a property tax deferral loan program to assist eligible taxpayers with increased property taxes on their primary residences. Eligible applicants include seniors aged 62 or older with at least 20% equity, active-duty military personnel from Montana with at least 10% equity, and surviving spouses of deceased qualifying property owners. The program allows for loans up to the difference between current and 2022 property taxes, subject to certain conditions. The loans accrue interest at a rate of the prime mortgage interest rate or 5%, whichever is less.
