Montana HB711 prohibits the Supreme Court from selecting a redistricting chair who has made recent major party contributions.

Montana HB711 amends the composition of the Districting and Apportionment Commission by prohibiting the Supreme Court from selecting a fifth member who has made a campaign contribution to a major party candidate for state or federal office in the past 10 years. The majority and minority leaders of each house designate four commissioners, who then select the fifth member to serve as the presiding officer. If the four members fail to select the fifth member within 20 days, the Supreme Court must choose the fifth member, but only if the individual has not made such contributions.
