HB684

Eliminate deadline for water quality data review

Complete·5/13/25

Montana HB684 eliminates the deadline for the Department of Environmental Quality to review data for water quality assessments.

Montana HB684 amends Section 75-5-702, MCA, to remove the deadline for the Department of Environmental Quality to review data for water quality assessments. The bill also modifies the process for developing Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL) for surface water bodies. The Department must now initiate TMDL development within 30 days of receiving an application for a new individual permit to discharge into a surface water body or segment. If the department cannot complete the TMDL within 180 days, it must specify the reasons and agree on a new timeframe with the applicant.
