Montana HB554 removes requirement for FWP to regulate wolves as furbearers or game animals.
Montana HB554 removes the requirement for the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks to manage, protect, classify, or regulate wolves as game animals or furbearers. Instead, the department must manage wolves as a species in need of management until the department and the Fish and Wildlife Commission determine that wolves no longer need protection. The bill also allows for the issuance of special kill permits, or shoot-on-sight written take authorizations, for wolves to protect livestock.
