Missouri SB1741 modifies rental protections for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
Missouri SB1741 modifies provisions for rental protections for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. It allows tenants or lessees to request a lock change if they or a household member are victims of such acts. The landlord must change the locks within 24 hours upon request and documentation. If a landlord fails to comply, the tenant can change the locks themselves and notify the landlord. The landlord can then recover possession of the premises from the perpetrator. The bill also provides that landlords are not liable for actions taken in good faith under this section.
