Introduced Text

Missouri SB1541 prohibits mental health professionals from engaging in conversion therapy with minors.

Missouri SB1541 amends the state's mental health professional licensing laws to prohibit certain mental health professionals from engaging in conversion therapy with minors. Conversion therapy refers to practices or treatments that seek to change an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity. The bill explicitly excludes counseling that provides assistance to a person undergoing gender transition or counseling that provides acceptance, support, and understanding of a person or facilitates coping, social support, and identity exploration and development, as long as such counseling does.
