Missouri HB3488 establishes protocols for identifying and assisting students at risk of suicide or self-harm.
Missouri HB3488 mandates that public schools and charter schools adopt policies to identify students at risk of suicide or self-harm. These policies require designated staff to perform risk assessments and notify parents or guardians. By July 1, 2027, schools must include protocols for helping students at risk of self-harm. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will develop a model policy for districts to adopt, incorporating input from organizations with expertise in youth suicide prevention.
