HB3459

Establishes "Preston's Law" to set standards for law enforcement conduct in homicide investigations, including timelines for reports and family.

Preston's Law establishes standards for law enforcement officers during homicide investigations, including timelines for providing preliminary findings, toxicology reports, and autopsy reports to the next-of-kin. It mandates that law enforcement agencies provide victims of crime resources and police reports to the next-of-kin within specific timeframes. The law also requires annual training for officers in trauma-informed communication, cultural sensitivity, victim rights, and family engagement protocols.
