HB3161

Missouri HB3161 allows for the transfer of utility service to a spouse without additional fees under certain conditions.

Missouri HB3161 establishes that public utilities cannot charge extra fees when transferring service to a spouse if the account is in good standing and the account holder dies, is deported, or is incarcerated for more than sixty days. However, a new deposit may be required if the spouse has an unpaid bill, interfered with utility service, or fails to provide proof of identity. If a new deposit is needed, the spouse can pay it in installments. The utility may also require documentation such as a marriage certificate or proof of residency before transferring service.
