HB2548

Missouri HB2548 establishes provisions for covenant marriages, requiring premarital counseling and limiting grounds for divorce.

Missouri HB2548 introduces provisions for covenant marriages, which are marriages between one man and one woman who agree to live together for life. Couples must receive premarital counseling and declare their intent to enter into a covenant marriage on their marriage license application. The law limits grounds for divorce to adultery, habitual abuse of drugs or alcohol, felony conviction with death or imprisonment, physical or sexual abuse, or abandonment for at least two years. Couples must also attend forty hours of marital counseling before a divorce can be granted.
