The "Charitable Organizations Privacy Protection Act" allows charitable organizations to request personal financial information from holders of property such as annuities, insurance policies, and retirement plans. The act requires holders to provide the information if the organization submits an affidavit verifying its charitable status and authority. If the holder refuses to provide the information within 30 days, the organization can bring an action to compel delivery. The act also provides protections for holders and third parties acting in good faith.
