Complete·7/13/26

Missouri HB1867 allows Joplin to increase its transient guest tax for tourism up to six percent, subject to voter approval.

Missouri HB1867 amends existing law to allow Joplin to increase its transient guest tax for tourism to no more than six percent, subject to voter approval. The tax applies to charges for sleeping rooms in hotels or motels. The tax increase, if approved, will be in addition to any other charges and taxes. The proceeds from the tax will be used solely for funding a convention and visitors bureau to promote tourism in Joplin. The tax increase cannot become effective unless the governing body submits a proposal to the voters at an election.
