Introduced Text

Missouri HB1781 changes the process for filling vacancies in the state general assembly.

Missouri HB1781 modifies the procedure for filling vacancies in the state general assembly. If a vacancy occurs 46 weeks or more before the end of the term, the governor must issue a writ within seven days, and the election must be held by the 18th Tuesday following the writ. If the vacancy occurs less than 46 weeks before the end of the term, the governor has discretion to issue the writ. The bill repeals and replaces Section 21.110, RSMo, with new provisions for handling vacancies.
