HB1757

Establishes procedures for school districts to test for gifted students in Missouri.

Missouri HB1757 establishes procedures for school districts to test for gifted students. It mandates universal screenings for all students before the beginning of grade three starting from the 2026-27 school year. Districts must use valid, reliable, and current testing methods, providing evidence from at least two areas such as general mental ability, academic achievement, creativity, reasoning, problem solving, and referrals. Screenings must be reviewed by trained staff. A child's failure to meet criteria on a single tool does not prevent further consideration.
