Introduced Text

HB1737 establishes the offense of unlawful tracking of a motor vehicle in Missouri.

HB1737 amends Missouri law by adding a new section that criminalizes the installation, concealment, or placement of an electronic tracking device on a motor vehicle without the consent of all owners. The offense is a class A misdemeanor for a first offense and a class E felony for any subsequent offenses. Exceptions include law enforcement officers conducting criminal investigations, vehicle rental companies tracking their own vehicles, and parents monitoring their minor children. The provisions do not apply to tracking systems installed by the vehicle manufacturer.
