Missouri HB1719 requires law enforcement officers to receive training on officer-canine encounters and canine behaviors. This training includes understanding and anticipating canine behavior, humane methods and tools in handling canine encounters, state laws relating to canines, use of force continuum principles in relation to canines, and nonlethal methods to avoid and defend against potential canine attacks. The training is part of the basic training for peace officers first licensed on or after August 28, 2027.
