Noxubee County proposes a 2% tax on the gross proceeds from room rentals of hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts to fund tourism and parks and recreation. The tax excludes rentals of 30 days or longer. Before the tax can be levied, the Board of Supervisors must adopt a resolution and hold an election where 60% of voters must approve. The tax will be collected by the Department of Revenue and paid to the Board of Supervisors, with 3% retained by the Department of Revenue for collection costs. The tax revenue will be dedicated solely to tourism and parks and recreation.
