Mississippi SB2921 amends Section 23-17-29 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to mandate that the state legislature honor the intent and substance of ballot initiatives proposed by citizens when drafting an alternative initiative. If the legislature amends an initiative, both the amended version and the original initiative must be submitted to the electors. The amended version must honor the intent and substance of the original initiative. This act takes effect from and after July in the year following the year in which the Secretary of State certifies the passage of the constitutional amendment.
