Mississippi SB2786 allows water districts to dissolve and reorganize as associations.
Mississippi SB2786 amends the Mississippi Code to allow water districts to dissolve if a majority of landowners petition for dissolution. The clerk must publish notice of the petition for three consecutive weeks. If the chancery court finds dissolution to be in the best interest of landowners, the district is dissolved and its assets and liabilities are transferred to a newly formed water association. The bill also brings forward Section 19-5-165 to address the assets and liabilities of newly formed water districts.
