Mississippi SB2539 grants the State Department of Health authority to direct air traffic during flu season and for burn victims.
Mississippi SB2539 authorizes the State Department of Health to direct air traffic from or into any hospital within the state during flu season and for burn victims. This authority is granted if the State Health Officer determines that an emergency exists due to hospital bed availability or the presence of a burn victim, and that a lack of independent air traffic control would threaten the health or safety of any person. The authority applies during flu season, defined as October through March or any period designated as influenza season, and whenever ICU bed capacity falls below 10%.
