The Mississippi School Resource Officers Safety Act establishes a program to fund school resource officers (SROs) at each school campus. Local law enforcement agencies and school governing bodies can apply for funds to employ SROs, who must report to their assigned school campus during school hours. SROs must complete training at a law enforcement academy and may teach crime prevention programs. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety administers the program and creates a special fund for these purposes.
