Mississippi SB2346 amends Section 19-25-3 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to mandate that candidates for sheriff must be certified law enforcement officers. A certified law enforcement officer is defined as someone certified by the Mississippi Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training with ten or more years of service in law enforcement. Exemptions apply to sheriffs elected prior to July 1, 2026. The act takes effect from and after July 1, 2026.
