Mississippi SB2085 amends the Mississippi Code to reduce penalties for simple possession of marijuana and synthetic cannabinoids. Possession of 30 grams or less of marijuana is now a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment for up to 90 days. Possession of 10 grams or less of synthetic cannabinoids is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $3,000 or imprisonment for up to 3 years. The bill also directs that funds from civil penalties for marijuana possession be deposited into the general fund of the municipality or county.
