Increases fine for operating a vehicle without liability insurance in Mississippi.

Mississippi SB2073 increases the fine for operating a vehicle without mandatory liability insurance from $100 to $500. The bill also makes the fine nonwaivable and requires judges to authorize the reinstatement of a defendant's driver's license only upon proof of mandatory liability insurance and payment of any fines, assessments, and fees. The funds from such fines will be deposited in the general fund of the municipality or county. The bill also establishes the "Uninsured Motorist Identification Fund" to receive fines and fund the motor vehicle insurance verification system.
