Mississippi SB2069 mandates public schools to adopt policies prohibiting or restricting cell phone use by students in class.

Mississippi SB2069 requires each public school district, public charter school, and certain state high schools to adopt policies banning or restricting cell phone use by students during class or under supervision. Schools must send these policies to the State Department of Education by January 1, 2027. Exceptions may be made for emergencies, medical necessity, or individualized education programs. Noncompliance results in daily funding deductions starting January 1, 2027. Suspension may be used as a last resort disciplinary measure, but cannot be based solely on policy violations.
