Mississippi SB2029 amends Section 93-5-1 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to add an additional ground for divorce when the court finds an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage and reconciliation is impractical or futile. It removes the requirement of "willful and obstinate" from the desertion ground for divorce. The bill also modifies the process for proving incurable mental illness as a ground for divorce, including the requirement of two physician affidavits and a thorough examination. The act is set to take effect from July 1, 2026.
