Mississippi HB770 allows law enforcement agencies to use proceeds from selling forfeited firearms to purchase equipment.

Mississippi HB770 amends Section 97-37-3 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to authorize law enforcement agencies to use proceeds from selling forfeited firearms to purchase equipment. If a weapon is forfeited to a law enforcement agency and is merchantable, the court may order the weapon to be sold at auction to a federally-licensed firearms dealer. The proceeds from such sales will be used to purchase equipment for the seizing law enforcement agency. This act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
