Mechanics can seek vehicle title from title loan companies if customers fail to pay for repairs.
Mississippi HB73 amends the state code to allow mechanics to seek the title of a vehicle from a title loan company if the vehicle owner fails to pay for repair services. This applies if the title loan was acquired after the mechanic began the repairs. If payment is not made within 30 days, the mechanic can notify the owner and lienholder, and if the debt remains unpaid after five days, can commence legal action. The act takes effect from July 1, 2026.
