The Public Safety Recruitment and Retention Act establishes tuition awards for public safety personnel and their legal dependents. Public safety personnel with at least six years of service can receive awards covering up to 100% of tuition costs. Legal dependents of personnel with at least ten years of service can also receive awards. Awards are subject to appropriation and available funds are distributed based on years of service and crime rates in the personnel's jurisdiction. Recipients must first apply for federal and state financial aid and meet other eligibility criteria.
