City of Leland can impose a 2% tax on bars, restaurants, and hotels/motels to fund tourism and recreation.
The City of Leland is authorized to levy a 2% tax on the gross proceeds from sales at bars and restaurants and from room rentals at hotels and motels. This tax is intended to generate funds for promoting tourism and parks and recreation within the city. Before the tax can be imposed, the governing authorities must adopt a resolution and hold a referendum election. If 60% of the voters approve, the tax can be levied. The tax proceeds will be dedicated solely for tourism and recreation purposes and will not be considered general fund revenues. The act will be repealed after July 1, 2030.
