Mississippi HB393 amends tax levy procedures for school districts.

Mississippi HB393 amends the Mississippi Code to allow the levying authority for a school district to approve, in full or in part, a request for an increase in the ad valorem tax effort for the school district. The bill also modifies the procedures for calling a referendum on the question of increasing the millage rate in school districts. The levying authority may increase the millage rate if the dollar amount requested by the school board and approved by the levying authority exceeds the next preceding fiscal year's ad valorem tax effort in dollars by more than four percent but not more.
